Welcome to your July eZine.

We have all been thrown into a virtual landscape. That being said, the need to present ourselves professionally hasn’t changed. What has changed is what it takes to do it well.

This month’s eZine provides some timely considerations for anyone interacting on a virtual platform who wishes to be seen as polished, credible and effective. The Business Insight video gives us tips for how to develop trust through eye contact and attire on camera.

The audible chapters will get you thinking about how communications and actions can quickly become public. Our article provides reminders about sayings that may offend, and our Tero Tips video will challenge another factor in virtual professionalism- your voice. Our quiz will give you pointers on the predominate piece of the virtual landscape we find ourselves in- virtual meetings.

What Do You Know About Virtual Meetings Quiz Explored Further:

  1. Virtual meetings require more breaks and longer lunch times.

True. People cannot take in information well if we do not provide breaks for them to refresh and also manage the other dynamics in their remote environment.
  2. It is a good idea to send participants your slides ahead of the meeting so they have time to process them.
False. Slides used should not be sent ahead as this can promote participants making assumptions about the meeting  and also reduces engagement in the meeting itself.
  3. It is necessary to speak slower and condense content if delivering information virtually.
True. In the virtual environment people will need more time to consider ideas and also condensed content. Too much content delivered too quickly will not be effective.
  4. People are busy working from home, so start and end with only necessary agenda items.
False. A meeting's purpose is to accomplish tasks but also engage participants and leave them feeling motivated and inspired. The agenda items are just one part of an effective meeting.
  5. It is imperative to engage participants in your meetings in some way when working through the agenda.
True. The agenda items will be dealt with more effectively if participants have some kinesthetic way to work with them rather than simply discussing or listening.
