Welcome to your December eZine.

If you find yourself taking things one day at a time right now, you’re not alone. Many business leaders, supervisors, and professionals are exhausted by the prolonged levels of stress and anxiety brought on by the pandemic, political climate, and fluctuating economy. So this month, we are keeping it simple and taking everything one step at a time. This month’s eZine is all about how each small success and incremental decision builds the momentum we need to make progress and lead better.

“Enough Helping Hands” is an audio chapter from Your Invisible Toolbox that tells the story of Josh Cyganic and Leonard Bullock. Two strangers who meet through a series of unremarkable events but demonstrate the momentum and inspiration created through starting with small wins.

Dr. Harwant Kush’s article “Goal Setting and Planning Strategies for Executives” provides four methods for how to be strategic in setting our goals and avoid common pitfalls.

The curation of videos this month includes an episode from the Your Invisible Toolbox show discussing the ways success and progress are achieved through one small win at a time. This particular episode includes an insightful interview with Jackie Norris, current Senior Advisor to President-Elect Joe Biden and former President and CEO of Goodwill of Central Iowa. The Business Insight video by Ro Crosbie gives us four ways we can track and celebrate small wins with our teams. We also include a Tero Tips video about why sweating the small stuff is worth your time and energy. Whether the outcome is positive or negative, each small decision has consequences.

If you are looking for resources that are more hands on, take a look at some of the tools included in this month’s eZine. We have a Tero Development Challenge article for you to help determine and achieve your own small wins. You can try tracking your tasks and making a priority chart with Tero’s Advanced Prioritization Matrix worksheet. Finally, test your knowledge on small wins by taking our quiz this month.

Reflect back on a success you’ve had recently. Can you break it down into the multitude of small steps, decisions, and wins that got you there? Being intentional and proactive about starting small can eventually lead us each to achieving goals we desire for ourselves and our organizations.

Achieve Small Wins: Development Challenge

Change is scary. It is easy to make excuses that the risks of failure are too high and reconcile ourselves to the comfort of the familiar (even if we don't particularly like the familiar and don't find it all that comfortable.) Wise people know this and know that they will need to start small with recognizable, feasible steps toward the larger goal. Tackling the whole thing at once would be too overwhelming. The small, doable steps are called "small wins" and they are imperative for fueling the positive momentum toward the final goal.

Leadership Activities: Getting the Most of Your Time and Your Life

You've probably learned by now that life isn't always fair. While all of us have resources, there is a great disparity between those who have many and those who have few. Some have more money than others while still others have more energy, creativity, or technical ability than the next.
